Programme pillar

Climate & Environmental Resilience

Helping communities and landscapes adapt to a changing climate through restoration, early warning and nature-based solutions.

  • SDG 13Climate Action
  • SDG 15Life on Land
  • SDG 1No Poverty

Problem context

Why this matters

Smallholder communities across East Africa face increasingly erratic rainfall, prolonged drought, land degradation and biodiversity loss, while having limited access to climate information and adaptation finance.

Approach

How we work

We combine landscape restoration, community-led natural resource management and climate data to design adaptation measures that are locally owned and measurable.

Design

Interventions and intended outcomes

Interventions

  • Agroforestry and indigenous tree restoration
  • Community climate information services
  • Soil and water conservation
  • Biodiversity-positive land use planning

Intended outcomes

  • Improved adaptive capacity of participating households
  • Restored and better-managed land
  • Stronger local climate governance

Evidence & metrics

Indicator framework

  • Hectares under restoration (verified)
  • Households using climate information
  • Tree survival rate
Targets and baselines are set per project and published only once verified.
